Some of the most thrilling musical moments happen when unexpected worlds collide. In this electrifying concert, Norwegian musicians Nils Petter Molvær and Eivind Aarset blend jazz, rock, and ambient soundscapes with iconic reggae rhythm-makers Sly Dunbar and Robbie Shakespeare. Dunbar and Shakespeare defined the Jamaican "Rub A Dub" style and shaped hundreds of reggae hits over four decades. Shakespeare initiated the project out of a long-standing fascination with Molvær’s imaginative trumpet playing. What starts as a bold gamble pays off completely. Mid-performance, Shakespeare sings lines from The Abyssinians' classic track, opening a doorway into a dreamlike sonic country. Here, the floating atmosphere of Scandinavian Nu Jazz elevates Jamaica's driving rhythms. Melancholic melodies rest on crisp, grounded drumming to create a truly hypnotic experience that eventually inspired their 2018 album Nordub.
