Fusing Queen's anthemic rock with the lyrical grace of Mozart's arias, Maurice Béjart transforms grief into celebration in this filmed staging from Lausanne's Théâtre Métropole. His ballet honors Freddie Mercury and Jorge Donn, two artistic giants lost to AIDS at 45. Béjart Ballet Lausanne moves in Gianni Versace's sculptural costumes: glossed bodies pulse to "Radio Ga Ga," couples intertwine in opulent gowns, and a soloist in Union Jack tights springs through "The Millionaire Waltz." The performance moves from raw sensuality to aching mourning, then explodes into defiant joy. Exclusive interviews with Brian May, Roger Taylor, Adam Lambert, Wayne Sleep, and Arlene Phillips reveal the ballet's creation and lasting impact. What emerges is proof that even in the face of devastating loss, art refuses to let the body, or the spirit, die.
