Jazz comes alive in the historic town of Nancy, France, with this enthralling 2024 performance by the extraordinary pianist Brad Mehldau and his latest world-class trio. Playing to a captivated crowd at the Opera National de Lorraine, Mehldau is joined by longtime bandmate Jorge Rossy on drums and the phenomenal young Danish bassist Felix Moseholm. Together, they demonstrate an empathetic creative communication that fills the beautiful venue with wonder. Mehldau approaches melody and harmony with a singular, deep-thinking vocabulary, opening the set with a gentle, swinging rendition of his original piece Say Goodbye. The trio keeps the momentum moving with the upbeat, joyful Blues Impulse and the shifting tempos of A Walk in the Park. Offering breathtaking overhead camera views of Mehldau's inventive fingerwork, the film culminates in an angular, surprising encore performance of Thelonious Monk’s classic Work, letting Rossy shine with brilliant closing accents."
