Filmed in September 2013, this captivating live concert documents the meteoric rise of Gregory Porter just three years after his debut on the global jazz stage. Possessing a warm, authoritative baritone and an unmistakable presence, Porter arrived as an internationally recognized force from the outset. This performance showcases material from his breakout album Liquid Spirit, which went on to win the 2014 Grammy Award for Best Jazz Vocal Album and cemented his reputation as one of the definitive voices of modern jazz. Driven by a desire to share the transformative power of jazz with the widest possible audience, Porter approaches his craft with deep historical awareness. Grounded in the enduring legacy of the civil rights movement and the moral conviction of figures like Martin Luther King Jr., his songs act as a unifying force. When he calls on the crowd to clap their hands during the album's title track, it is far more than a simple audience-participation cue. It is an invitation to share in a genuine, communal energy rooted in truth, resilience, and soul. Backed by a tight, expressive band, Porter commands the stage with effortless grace, blending gospel-infused warmth with refined jazz phrasing. The Paris audience is drawn entirely into his world, responding to every subtle nuance and soaring vocal run. Liquid Spirit live is an exhilarating celebration of music as a real, living force, proving that true art continues to heal, inspire, and bring people together across generations.
