Brazilian pianist Amaro Freitas brings the polyrhythmic sounds of Africa to life in a captivating performance alongside his Afro-Brazilian bandmates. Drawing inspiration from jazz icons like Thelonious Monk and McCoy Tyner, Freitas plays with a percussive energy that balances raw power with pure delicacy. His sunny spirit shines bright when he invites the audience to sing along to “Gloriosa,” a heartwarming piece dedicated to his mother. The set transforms into a rich homage to the Amazon rainforest, channeling the atmosphere of his album Y'Y. Y'Y translates to "water" or "river" in Indigenous Tupi-Guarani, reflecting Freitas' exploration of forest life. He weaves the sounds of birds, rivers, and spiritual traditions into a fresh meditation on life and music.
