Saxophonist Shabaka Hutchings stands at the center of London’s vibrant jazz scene. His signature sound blends deep global roots with bold musical exploration. In this 2017 concert live at Moods, Hutchings leads Shabaka and the Ancestors. The group offers a spiritual, deeply reflective voice compared to his other acclaimed projects. While Sons of Kemet explores Caribbean connections and The Comet Is Coming fires up futuristic electronic jazz, the Ancestors focus on ancestral wisdom. Hutchings formed the group after immersing himself in the rich musical heritage of Johannesburg. Collaborating with South African musicians, he built a powerful lineup of brass, keys, percussion, and vocals. Together, they turn centuries of history and political struggle into an unstoppable blaze of live sound.
